ALTERED FOOD WAR
Editor -- Regarding "Genetically
altered food at the heart of controversy" (June 23):
Thank you for your front-page
coverage of a true war of "terror" being waged by the biotech industry
on an unknowing population. I think we should all take heed when
Alice Waters takes up arms to protest against food. Lest we forget
that the USDA is heavily lobbied as well as "seeded" with conservative
appointments by the Bush administration.
Genetically altered foods need
to be extensively researched before being widely distributed both
here and abroad. The lack of regulation of these foods by the USDA
and the insistence of the biotech industry against labeling should
be a warning: "consumer beware."
